Yellowstone Recap: Back in the Saddle — Plus, [Spoiler] Deals With the Devil
Warning: Oh, c’mon, this ain’t your first rodeo. The following contains spoilers for Sunday’s Yellowstone, and you darn well know it!

Just a week ago, I wasn’t sure that we’d ever see Yellowstone’s Jimmy back in the saddle again, but in Sunday’s episode, he went on what I suspect he’d agree was the ride of his life. In other developments, Beth kinda-sorta proposed to Rip (or at least proposed that he propose), Kayce accepted the Livestock Commissioner post that wasn’t so much offered to as inflicted on him, and John contemplated

The Chi Recap: So Close, Yet So Far
For a few minutes in this week’s The Chi, it seems as though we get a definitive — if tragic — ending to the mystery of Kiesha’s whereabouts.

Thank goodness for Nina, Dre and Kevin, that possibility is dashed when the body of a young woman is determined not to be the missing track star. And while Nina and Dre reflect how relieved they are that the dead girl isn’t their daughter, they’re also forced to realize that she is someone else’s.

Former Pop TV Head Brad Schwartz Exits Audible After Less Than a Month
After leaving Pop TV to join Audible as its chief content officer on June 15, Brad Schwartz has departed the Amazon-owned audiobook and audio entertainment company less than a month into his new role, Variety has learned.

Audible declined to comment on the circumstances surrounding Schwartz’s exit, but according to Bloomberg, which first reported the news, Audible employees had discovered an old sexual harassment lawsuit filed against Pop Media Group and expressed discomfort to management. Schwartz was not named a defendant, but his connection to the lawsuit reportedly led the audiobook creator and provider to reconsider its ties to the executive.

TV's One-Hit Wonders: Pitch, Bunheads, Baker and the Beauty, Forever and 40+ More Shows That Ended Too Soon
To paraphrase a famous saying: ‘Tis better to have loved a TV show, and lost it after one season, than never to have loved at all.

Throughout the years, TV fans have loved and lost a lot of quality series, too many of which were axed after just one season despite their massive potential. Now that another TV season is behind us — which brought the cancellations of one-and-done series like Emergence and The Baker and the Beauty — we’re getting a bit nostalgic for dozens more shows that departed too soon.

‘P-Valley’ Review: Trap Music Meets Film Noir in a Series Unlike Anything Ever Seen on TV

‘P-Valley’ Review: Trap Music Meets Film Noir in a Series Unlike Anything Ever Seen on TV
P-Valley” is an eight-episode series full of grit and glitter, set deep down in the Mississippi Delta, and it knows exactly where it lives, imbued with a sense of time and place, pulsating with local music, and plunged into its characters’ messy lives. This hour-long drama tells the kaleidoscopic story of a little-strip-club-that-could, and the cast of curious personalities who come through the doors every night. Most importantly, it’s a lyrical and atmospheric series that centers on lives of a community unlike anything television has seen before.

The press notes describe “P-Valley” as “trap music meets film noir.” “P-Valley” certainly has noir qualities, with taut, no-nonsense dialogue, a woman with a mysterious past, multiple femme fatales, antiheroes, stark lighting effects, flashbacks, intricate plotting, and more, but with a southern-fried twist. An immersive layout, featuring a lengthy cast list, helps bring out its swampy reality.

Adapting her play “Pussy Valley,

‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Trailer: ‘Rick and Morty’ Alum Mike McMahan Leads Animated Series

‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Trailer: ‘Rick and Morty’ Alum Mike McMahan Leads Animated Series
While “Star Trek” and “animated workplace comedy” might seem like an unlikely hybrid, that’s exactly what’s coming to CBS All Access on August 6 with “Star Trek: Lower Decks.” The 10-episode first season is created by Mike McMahan, formerly the head writer of the Adult Swim phenomenon and Emmy-winning series “Rick and Morty.” McMahan also co-created the Hulu series “Solar Opposites.” Check out the first trailer for “Star Trek: Lower Decks” below.

McMahan already has plenty of experience in the “Star Trek” universe as the mastermind behind the popular Tng Season 8 Twitter account, which imagined what “Star Trek: The Next Generation” might’ve looked like had the series continued, and it even spawned a spinoff book of its own in 2015. How Music Supervisors Helped ‘P-Valley’ Achieve Hip-Hop Parity With 50% Female Soundtrack
Gender parity was foremost on the mind of “P-Valley” creator Katori Hall whose goal was not only to have women onscreen but also behind the scenes and on the hip hop-heavy soundtrack, which features 50% female artists.

The new drama, premiering on Starz tonight (July 12) is adapted from Hall’s play, “Pussy Valley,” and revolves around a strip club called Pynk. Set in the Mississippi Delta, the women working as exotic dancers are trying to get out of the club and the shackles of fictional town, Chucalissa.

Naya Rivera Search Continues; Surrounding Area Is Part of Effort
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department is attempting to dissaude the public from joining the search for “Glee” actress Naya Rivera, who is presumed to be drowned after a swimming accident Wednesday at California’s Lake Piru.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Captain Eric Buschow told Variety that authorities do not want friends or fans of Rivera to attempt to search the area by themselves.

“It’s going to be oppressively hot. It’s very steep, very rugged,” Buschow said Sunday, just as temperatures were hitting 100 degrees at the lake.

“They’re well-intentioned, they want to help,” Buschow said of the offers to join the effort,

The virtual event replaces the annual San Diego Comic-Con, the largest fan convention in North America, which was to be held July 22–26 at the San Diego Convention Center, until the Covid-19 pandemic forced its cancellation.

In June, Comic-Con International — the non-profit organization that oversees Sdcc and its sister event, WonderCon in Anaheim, Calif. — announced it was moving forward with the virtual event on the same dates. This time, however, the event is free and open to all.
